I lead development teams and build full-stack, API-driven apps.
Head of Development with a frontend background. I own applications, APIs, infrastructure and security end to end, and I care about systems that stay maintainable.

Central administration platform. Red Umbrella / Carecoins, 2025 to now
Administration ran on spreadsheets and documents. I designed and built one platform that replaces those manual processes with integrated digital workflows.
The problem
Manual, document-based admin that was slow and prone to inconsistent data.
What I built
A central admin platform with automated workflows, plus validation and checks that catch errors before they spread.
The result
40+ hours saved per week, manual errors reduced due to conditional logic and validation.

The Carecoins suite
Therapist Portal, Company Portal and Wallet. Red Umbrella / Carecoins, 2025 to now
A set of connected applications and public websites that share APIs and backend services. I own delivery across all of it.
The problem
I replaced a spreadsheet-and-document workflow with three connected applications on shared APIs. Therapists manage their own sessions, clients and invoices in the Therapist Portal. Companies track their Carecoins usage and support their employees’ wellbeing in the Company Portal. Clients manage their own Carecoins and therapy sessions in the Wallet.
What I built
Three applications on shared APIs and backend services, with frontend, database design, hosting, deployment and security handled in one team.
The result
1800+ users, 100+ companies, 10,000+ therapy sessions, 100+ therapists all managed from a single API and not one spreadsheet involved!

Leading frontend at Icansee
Team leadership and client delivery. Icansee, 2022 to 2025
I led four frontend developers and set the standards the team worked to, while overseeing client websites built in WordPress and React.
The problem
A disparate remote team with low morale, patchy communication and inconsistent standards. Some developers felt unsupported and left to work things out alone.
What I did
Rebuilt communication across the remote team, set shared frontend standards and code review practices, mentored and brought on junior developers, and took on hiring.
The result
Promotions, improved morale, better communication, consistent standards, and a team that felt supported and valued.

How I lead
I lead by staying close to the code. Standards work best when the person setting them still ships.
Mentoring
I support developers with regular guidance and honest feedback. I helped one developer grow into a senior full stack developer who now leads development at a successful energy startup.
Engineering standards
Code reviews and shared practices that keep quality consistent across a team and across projects.
Pragmatic delivery
I choose technology for the business problem, favour maintainable systems, and automate the manual steps that cause errors.
About
I started in 2012 building WordPress sites and have spent the years since widening what I own: first frontend teams, now whole platforms.
Before software I studied jazz at Leeds Conservatoire. I am also fluent in French and play drums in a post grunge band in my spare time.
BA (Hons) Jazz Music, Leeds Conservatoire, 2007
